Rules & Regulations

  1. The 2021 Ladies of Laughter® contest is open to all women over the age of 18.

  2. Separate competitions will be held for stand-up comedy, story-telling and video shorts. There will be 2 categories for stand-up to include Professional and New/Amateur categories and will be determined by the contest producers. There will be separate categories for storytelling and video shorts. Criteria to be considered are the following:

    • The ability to engage the producers through wit and humor, originality, material, and delivery.

    Stand-Up Category will be determined by:

    • Performances or previous work featured at major nightclubs and/or theaters during primetime

    • History of paid performance or payments

    • Comedy festival appearances (stand-up, video or storytelling).

    • Length of time as a performer

  3. producers have the right to declare any performer ineligible for inaccuracies presented in their entry form. Sponsor employees and the immediate families and Ladies of Laughter employees are ineligible to participate.

  4. The prizes for the competition will be announced by the beginning of the first event and include the following: cash, paid bookings, gift certificates, publicity and/or other select prizes.

  5. All judging will be based on audience response, originality, and presentation by a judging panel comprised of industry, media representatives and/or sponsor representatives.

  6. Stand-up Competitions will be held simultaneously for New/Amateur and Professional Winners. Professional comedians will perform up to 3:30 minutes. Newcomer comedians perform no longer than 2 minutes. One winner will be chosen from each category.

    The winner will be announced at the end of the competition by industry judges. Story submissions and performances should not be longer than 3:30 minutes. Stories should have a beginning, middle and end and a resolution by the end of the story.

    Video Short Competition: One winner and one runner-up will be chosen the night of the video short competition. The video submission should be no more than 3:30 and be submitted in MP4 format. The video should be shot horizontally and have broadcast quality lighting and sound. Any theme can be chosen by the contestant.

    All performances and videos will be timed and cut off should they exceed the allotted time by 10 seconds. Producers will tabulate the scores and make all final decisions. There is an entry fee of $25.00 to enter the 2021 Ladies of Laughter contest. Video links and entry forms will not be reviewed if fee is not included.

  7. A panel of judges comprised of talent agents, entertainment journalists and/or industry professionals will score the competitors on the above criteria. The decision of the judges is final. Winners will be required to complete, sign and return an affidavit of eligibility prior to the awarding of any prize.

  8. Ladies of Laughter, Inc. owns all rights to the Ladies of Laughter® and can use all materials and performances from the contest subject to the terms of the Release.

  9. By participating in Ladies of Laughter®, participants agree to be bound by all Rules and Regulations. By signing the entry form, you agree to hold harmless, Ladies of Laughter®, its producers, sponsors and representatives and all participating venues. You also agree that the decisions of the judges are final and you will not contest to judges decisions.

  10. The contest is subject to all federal, state and local regulations. Taxes on prizes, if any, are the responsibility of individual winners. If you do receive cash, you will need to provide your SS# to producers.
